7 Weeks to go!

Well, as the title may suggest, there are only 7 weeks left for me to finish my work before the Degree Show and there is still a lot to do...but I'm not panicking...yet.

I have lots of different ideas on the go and all the pieces are different from each other which hopefully will result in me having an interesting and attention grabbing collection. I won't put pictures of all my work up until closer to the time but I might just put a few sneaky peaks of my collection so watch this space.

My work is a mixture of traditional and modern technologies and materials. For example, just now I am working on a locket made from gold and silver and also am working on other pieces drawn on the computer and made from laser cut plastic. I like contrasting the precious and the non-precious with the new and old methods of working. I am also interested in how the different materials make me feel when I am woking with them. For example cutting and soldering the gold for the locket was terrifying! I was so scared  I would ruin it that I was incredibly stressed the whole time. Then when I watch the laser cutting machine cut the plastic it is really exciting and almost magical watching the beam of light moving across the sheet. It's very hypnotic. I could watch it all day.

I love the satisfaction of seeing a completed piece of work I have made from hand, but I also love the perfect effects you can get from using computers and modern technology. I combine both methods so I get the best of both worlds.

I got a picture taken today of one of my pieces to be put in the Degree Show catalogue so I'm very happy with how it turned out (despite not having any notice beforehand of the photography session!). Seeing the picture of my work on the computer screen is very satisfying to know that all my hard work (meaning blood, sweat and tears) has paid off. I can't wait for the Degree Show now so I can see everything I have made displayed and on show for the public to see and hopefully not judge too harshly.
